Stolen Classics

Woodward Dream Cruise
The Woodward Dream Cruise was a lot of fun this weekend, but sad to report that 3 classic cars were stolen during the event.  I am happy to report that intense media coverage has resulted in some of the vehicles being recovered.  http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/dream-cruise/2015/08/17/papa-johns-missing-camaro-found-detroit-driveway/31842409/

However; if the Cruise is to continue to draw crowds and cars, security will have to be better.  In the past I have seen many security guards at the event adding additional security to the large complement of law enforcement on hand.  This year I didn't really see too many security guards around.  I also have to say that many of the law enforcement officers were grouped together and would present more of a presence if they were to fan out in pairs or individually.

Just my observations and suggestions.

Crime Mapping

This is a great site to keep you informed as to criminal activity in your neighborhood.  You can even register to have alerts sent to your inbox and/or get an App (it's FREE) for your iPhone.

Unfortunately, many Police Departments have not yet joined and you will be unable to get information about criminal activity in your neighborhood if that is the case.

Toledo Police Mural

This is a really good video showing an AWESOME mural about the Toledo Police Department in Toledo, Ohio.  It is a  40 foot mural created by Detective Terry Cousino; what a talent this Detective has and what an awesome tribute to his Police Department.

It is What We Do...It is Who We Are

NY State Police Academy - "Excellence Through Knowledge"
   I will never forget sitting in that class at the New York State Police Academy and hearing Trooper Brown tell us;
"This is what I do it is NOT who I am."

State University of New York Public Safety

I understood exactly what he was saying, Police are all individuals and who they are is as variable as any group of humans. The Police today are black, white, Hispanic, Asian, female, LGBT...  Their personalities are also diverse; likes, dislikes, some work hard, while others are a bit lazy, some are good people, and others not so good.
The Bottom Line is:  #StopLabeling.

Trooper Brown's words have stayed with me all these years because they were true.  My immediate thought has also stayed with me all these years.
It is what I do because of who I am.

State of New York Court Officer

Like most people who enter Law Enforcement I wanted to help people, I wanted to protect and serve and I believed in justice.

Santa Says Pull Over

North Pole Police
Is this the best Police Department ever???
Imagine getting pulled over by Santa and his penguin pal?
Would you get a stocking full of coal instead of a ticket?
My advice - don't be naughty, be nice.

Driving and Traffic Tickets

Royal Oak Michigan Motorcycle Cop

Is it just me, or do you feel better when these guys are in front of you than when they are behind you?

Oakland County Michigan Sheriff Motorcycle

Of course I always try to obey the traffic laws (as we all should), but still feel more comfortable behind the PoliceJust saying.

How do you get out of a traffic ticket?
 Obey the law.

Cops Cruisin' on Woodward Ave.

Royal Oak Michigan Police - Woodward Dream Cruise

The Royal Oak Police Department was ready for the Woodward Dream Cruise, and so was I (though I think it was a little more fun for me).

With over 1 million attendees expected, 400 police officers were deployed for the event.  From my 'observation point/s' the crowds appeared orderly - just out to enjoy the beautiful day and the classic cars.

even in dune buggies.

I haven't heard the attendance counts as of yet, nor have I heard if there were any arrests or tickets issued.  Sadly, channel 7 did report that a corvette was stolen in Birmingham.  Hopefully, it will be recovered soon.

Police - Synonymous with Safe Neighborhoods

Royal Oak Police Department Ford Explorer
To me the Police is synonymous with Safe Neighborhoods.  A good proactive Police Department will keep neighborhoods safe.

I don't think that having the best or latest equipment is as important as having a well trained and dedicated Police Force.  Proper training is crucial because 'how you train is how you will react under stress.'

The Royal Oak Police Department presented a professional showing at the Safe Neighborhoods event - they also had some nice equipment on display that they were eager to talk
about.

Safe Neighborhoods Includes Department of Public Service

Royal Oak Department of  Public Service Dump Truck/Snowplow

When you think of safe neighborhoods the first agency you probably think of is the Police followed by the Fire Department.  How many of us would think Department of Public Service, and in particular the Highway Division?  I don't think I would have; however it does make perfect sense.  Especially after the tough winter we had this year I know I am grateful for their efforts to keep the roads clear and as passable as possible.  It was great to see the DPS included in Royal Oak Safe Neighborhoods.  Lots of fun to see these trucks up close and personal and to talk with the men who drive them.  Thanks for the work you do, I just hope that this winter we don't need you as much.
