USMC Humvees Sighted on 696 in Michigan

United States Marine Corp Humvee

I was driving 0n 696 Saturday in Michigan and spotted these two vehicles up ahead - 2 USMC Humvees.  It is always nice to see our military men and women, especially when they are in these awesome vehicles.  I was glad that I was able to snap a couple of pictures, but wish I could have conveyed my appreciation to those Marines inside for all they do and for their service to our country.  I know that those Marines I saw in these vehicles don't know me, nor do they most likely follow my blog.  However; I still want to say that Professor Kim D loves the Marines and Thank You to all those who serve in our military.

Wizard of Oz Lands at the Baldwin Theatre

Wizard of Oz at Baldwin Theatre Royal Oak, Michigan

More enrichment for Professor Kim.  I saw The Wizard of Oz the other night at the Baldwin Theatre in Royal Oak.  Another great show by Stagecrafters.

Baldwin Theatre - Stagecrafters in Royal Oak, Michigan

Everyone is familiar with The Wizard of Oz; a terrific story with wonderful music, and the audience was already clapping along during the overture.  The performers were all top rate, so it is hard to believe they are all amateurs.
I was anxious to see how they would handle some of 'special effects' and they did a good job.  They brought in Glinda on a kind of swing that they lowered onto the stage and they were able to have the Wicked Witch melt.  However; what impressed me the most was that they had 2 of the Flying Monkeys actually fly.

The show even had some music that was not in the movie along with some additional humor.  All in all a terrific production; and oh everyone, there is no place like Stagecrafters.

Comerica Park + Detroit Tigers = Enrichment

For our well-being we all need to have a variety of interests, hobbies and activities that will keep us stress free, engaged and stimulated.  With the animals at the zoo they would call it enrichment, and honestly we humans are no different we need 'some type of enrichment' for our psychological and physiological well-being.  One of the things I enjoy is baseball and I was lucky enough to win a pair of tickets to today's Detroit Tigers game.  Great seats thank you Value Center Market.

Unfortunately the Tigers lost today, but it was a good game and I still enjoyed it.  I was also sorry that Torii Hunter wasn't in the line-up today due to a sore hamstring - I hope he is feeling better, he is my #1 favorite Detroit Tiger.  I did get to see Miguel Cabrera another favorite and a future Hall of Famer.

I was a catcher when I played softball, so the catchers are usually one of my favorite players on a team.  Alex Avila is currently my favorite catcher in baseball.

I think I saw some of Detroit's newest Police Officers outside the stadium directing traffic and I would just like to say - you looked sharp, did a great job and please BE SAFE!!!

Police - Synonymous with Safe Neighborhoods

Royal Oak Police Department Ford Explorer
To me the Police is synonymous with Safe Neighborhoods.  A good proactive Police Department will keep neighborhoods safe.

I don't think that having the best or latest equipment is as important as having a well trained and dedicated Police Force.  Proper training is crucial because 'how you train is how you will react under stress.'

The Royal Oak Police Department presented a professional showing at the Safe Neighborhoods event - they also had some nice equipment on display that they were eager to talk
about.

Safe Neighborhoods and Everybody Loves the Fireman

Royal Oak Fire Department Truck Company 9-12
We wouldn't have safe neighborhoods without Firefighters and at the Royal Oak Safe Neighborhoods event...Everybody Loved the Firemen. They were giving out fire hats and let you climb up in the truck, so what's not to like.

I can still hear my NY State Court Officer Academy instructor telling us, "If you want to be loved be a Fireman.  Everybody loves the Fireman because he comes to your house and puts the fire out, he rescues your cat in the tree.  Nobody loves the Policeman because he tells you what to do."  Yea, I love the Firemen too, they do a great job.  When I was at the NY State Police Academy they took us out to where they train Firefighters and they walked us through the house they did their training on.  It was smokey , dark and hot inside the house and it gave me a deep respect for the job Firemen do.  I think it takes a lot of courage to go  into a burning building, especially carrying all that heavy equipment.  Thank you Royal Oak Fire Department for all you do.

Safe Neighborhoods Includes Department of Public Service

Royal Oak Department of  Public Service Dump Truck/Snowplow

When you think of safe neighborhoods the first agency you probably think of is the Police followed by the Fire Department.  How many of us would think Department of Public Service, and in particular the Highway Division?  I don't think I would have; however it does make perfect sense.  Especially after the tough winter we had this year I know I am grateful for their efforts to keep the roads clear and as passable as possible.  It was great to see the DPS included in Royal Oak Safe Neighborhoods.  Lots of fun to see these trucks up close and personal and to talk with the men who drive them.  Thanks for the work you do, I just hope that this winter we don't need you as much.

Fun night at this event.  Good food, nice people, and interesting information.  Tonight I'll talk about the food because we ate first.  :^)

Royal Oak Farmers Market Street Eats

Love the food trucks, I always have.  My dad loved to stop and get stuff from them when we were on road trips.  When I worked in NYC I loved the Street Vendors and their assortment of foods (Falafel Guy, Potato Guy, Scallion Pancakes, Dirty Water Dogs and Pretzels warmed on charcoal grills).

Rollin Stone Wood Fired Pizza

Started with some wood fired pizza and trust me it was wood fired.

Rollin Stone's Pizza Oven

Next up some Bar-B-Q.

Detroit BBQ Company

Of course you have to have dessert and there is always room for some ice cream.  Love the name - Treat Dreams, and the ice cream.

All I can say is I'm full and it was all DELICIOUS!!!

Love the Fireman

Yesterday I posted that anyone who just wanted to answer calls should become a Fireman not a Police Officer.  Just so there is no misunderstanding - I Love the Firemen - doesn't everybody?  As they say if you want to be loved become a Fireman.  Everybody loves the Fireman - he puts the fire out, gets the cat out of the tree.  Police Officers tell you what to do and not do - nobody likes that.  :^)  Again, we here at KDsCJ - LOVE FIREMEN!!!!!!!!

Profiling, Patterns, Proactive and Reactive

"Mind Hunter" is a quick and easy read.  The fact that John Douglas was born in NY, raised on Long Island, and that his first post out of the FBI Academy was in Detroit is an interesting aside for me.
Mr. Douglas states that when making arrests 'he soon became interested in the thought process that went into a crime.'  This interest in the thought process leads to 'profiling' cases and then seeing noticeable patterns that in turn leads to 'Proactive  Policing'.  I am and have always been a strong advocate of Proactive Policing.  To me Reactive only Policing is lazy and does not serve anyone well...except maybe the criminal.  In my opinion if you only want to answer calls you should become a Fireman not a Police Officer.
