Storm is Over, Power is Retored - I'm Back

Tree Down in Royal Oak, Michigan

Friday evening we had a storm in southeastern Michigan.  The storm didn't last long, but the wind was powerful when it came through - taking down trees, branches and power lines.  My power was finally restored early this evening.  Not  a fan of NO power, but not the worst thing that can happen.  Glad to be restored and back in business.

Cops Cruisin' on Woodward Ave.

Royal Oak Michigan Police - Woodward Dream Cruise

The Royal Oak Police Department was ready for the Woodward Dream Cruise, and so was I (though I think it was a little more fun for me).

With over 1 million attendees expected, 400 police officers were deployed for the event.  From my 'observation point/s' the crowds appeared orderly - just out to enjoy the beautiful day and the classic cars.

The police were on foot, bikes, horses,

motorcycles,

even in dune buggies.

I haven't heard the attendance counts as of yet, nor have I heard if there were any arrests or tickets issued.  Sadly, channel 7 did report that a corvette was stolen in Birmingham.  Hopefully, it will be recovered soon.

Safe Neighborhoods and Everybody Loves the Fireman

Royal Oak Fire Department Truck Company 9-12
We wouldn't have safe neighborhoods without Firefighters and at the Royal Oak Safe Neighborhoods event...Everybody Loved the Firemen. They were giving out fire hats and let you climb up in the truck, so what's not to like.

I can still hear my NY State Court Officer Academy instructor telling us, "If you want to be loved be a Fireman.  Everybody loves the Fireman because he comes to your house and puts the fire out, he rescues your cat in the tree.  Nobody loves the Policeman because he tells you what to do."  Yea, I love the Firemen too, they do a great job.  When I was at the NY State Police Academy they took us out to where they train Firefighters and they walked us through the house they did their training on.  It was smokey , dark and hot inside the house and it gave me a deep respect for the job Firemen do.  I think it takes a lot of courage to go  into a burning building, especially carrying all that heavy equipment.  Thank you Royal Oak Fire Department for all you do.

Safe Neighborhoods Includes Department of Public Service

Royal Oak Department of  Public Service Dump Truck/Snowplow

When you think of safe neighborhoods the first agency you probably think of is the Police followed by the Fire Department.  How many of us would think Department of Public Service, and in particular the Highway Division?  I don't think I would have; however it does make perfect sense.  Especially after the tough winter we had this year I know I am grateful for their efforts to keep the roads clear and as passable as possible.  It was great to see the DPS included in Royal Oak Safe Neighborhoods.  Lots of fun to see these trucks up close and personal and to talk with the men who drive them.  Thanks for the work you do, I just hope that this winter we don't need you as much.

Royal Oak Safe Neighborhoods

Fun night at this event.  Good food, nice people, and interesting information.  Tonight I'll talk about the food because we ate first.  :^)

Royal Oak Farmers Market Street Eats

Love the food trucks, I always have.  My dad loved to stop and get stuff from them when we were on road trips.  When I worked in NYC I loved the Street Vendors and their assortment of foods (Falafel Guy, Potato Guy, Scallion Pancakes, Dirty Water Dogs and Pretzels warmed on charcoal grills).

Rollin Stone Wood Fired Pizza

Started with some wood fired pizza and trust me it was wood fired.

Rollin Stone's Pizza Oven

Next up some Bar-B-Q.

Detroit BBQ Company

Of course you have to have dessert and there is always room for some ice cream.  Love the name - Treat Dreams, and the ice cream.
