I Like Mikey

Judge Sabrina L Johnson of  22nd District Court in Inskster, Michigan I salute you.
I absolutely love this video, it is such a great, heartwarming story.  Watching the dog walking throughout the courthouse is awesome, and I love when Mikey walks through the metal detector.
Watching this video reminded me of my days working in Family Court in New York City.  Our Captain had 2 rescued cats that lived in his office -  Monster and Spike.  Spike never left the office, he did like to lay on the battery chargers for our radios and on the sign in book.  Monster on the other hand liked to roam the courthouse before and after court.  He would ride the elevator on occasion and sometimes would be seen eyeing the line of people waiting for court to open.  He was also a good mouser and the night crew delighted in drawing crime scene chalk outlines where he had left his prey.

I am seeing more and more places utilizing animals to help reduce stress: nursing homes, workplaces and recently a funeral home in Michigan.  So, why not a courthouse?  I hope this is a trend that will continue to grow.

Swear to Tell the Truth

Do you swear to tell the truth?
Do you swear to tell the truth?  Wonder how many times I've said that in the course of my career as a New York State Court Officer.  More importantly, wonder how many times people actually told the truth.  I remember one Judge telling the litigants, "I know both of you are lying now, I just have to figure out which one is lying the least."
Don't be a Pinocchio - tell the truth!!!
