The World Becomes What We Teach

I spent my Saturday at a Humane Education Workshop called:   "The World Becomes What We Teach", presented by Zoe Weil and hosted by The Detroit Zoo.  I have to say it was incredible,  I learned so much and it has opened my eyes about the way I think.
I will be using what I learned to help me develop my own workshop/eclass/eBook and/or maybe some type of app.
This is the book we were given and I am looking forward to reading it.
The Power and Promise of Humane Education

I even was able to get Zoe to autograph it for me.

It was great to meet so many nice, caring people (mostly teachers, so I know that the future is in good hands).  I learned a lot, and as I said my thought process has been transformed so I will be thinking more critically in the future.
Thank you Zoe Weil for all you do and thank you Detroit Zoo for hosting such a fantastic workshop.

For me Humane Ed will change the world one person at a time.

Baby Boy Giraffe - He's Brand New

Giraffes at the Detroit Zoo

This is the new baby boy Giraffe at the Detroit Zoo.

He looks small next to mom and dad, but trust me he is a tall boy.  Baby Giraffes are usually about 6 feet tall, though I haven't heard the measurements on this guy yet.

My question to you; how can you NOT smile when you look at this baby?

Volunteer Appreciation at the Detroit Zoo

Detroit Zoo Volunteer Appreciation Party

Volunteering is its own reward, but a party is always nice too.  Tonight the Detroit Zoo thanked their volunteers with an enjoyable party.

This volunteer says thank you to all the staff that helped out and donated their time, talents and raffle prizes.
The theme this year was a great choice, considering all the construction currently underway at the Detroit Zoo; and the food as always was plentiful and good.  Even though I never win the raffles - the prizes are great and highly sought after.  It was fun to walk around a relatively uncrowded zoo (I always see something that makes me smile) and I never tire of it.  The 4-D movies, Rio and Grizzlies were great (who doesn't like to get water squirted in their face) and ending the evening with S'mores at the Fire Pit brings out the kid in us all.  Can't wait for next year's party.  Come join us - VOLUNTEER at the DETROIT ZOO!

Kismet or Coincidence

Detroit Zoo sign

My birthday is August 1 (never mind the year) and the Detroit Zoo opened on August 1, 1928.

I was born and raised in New York, yet I end up in Michigan in Royal Oak to be exact.  Where is the Detroit Zoo located?  Royal Oak, of course.  I even worked at the Detroit Zoo when I first moved here, and now I volunteer at the Detroit Zoo.
Is it Kismet or Coincidence?
No matter - I Love the Detroit Zoo.
